Wednesday  28th May 2008

Due to labour sickness during the night, landside has suffered this morning.   As you will appreciate we cannot call men during the night to have them come in.  This morning we have called more men in to help deal with the back log/queue.  We are endeavouring to have the landside back under control within 4/5 hrs.

Notice from the Port of Tilbury police

Thursday 28th February 2008

To all registered users.

We have received numerous complaints from some shipping lines that they can’t move their empty boxes within the exec’ system, this is due to the boxes they want to move being booked on VBS.  After some investigation it has been noticed that some of the boxes booked to be coming to Tilbury are not even in the country.  The rules that we, at TCS, are under is that any empty container in the system that has not arrived in port within 5 days should be cancelled from the exec’.  Some shipping lines allow hauliers to exec’ boxes into the system and these are the boxes that are causing the problems. Some containers have been exec’d and used for almost 3 months, during this time the lines are not able to move the booked container around the world.

Starting today we have no alternative than to carry out the following procedures:-

1,  Look forward into the system and check all booked empty boxes, any found to have been in the system for over 5 days  will have their exec’ deleted.

2,  Check any empty under or over 5 days and see where it is in the world, any not in the UK will be deleted from the exec’

3,  Inform the lines (those that have requested) of the hauliers who are abusing the system so they can be de registered from exec’ing boxes into the system.

Please note the following will apply.

Once a box has it’s exec’ deleted the VBS booking will automatically be cancelled (this is by default) and returned to the system for someone else to use.

Basically, TCS will delete any VBS booking found to have been made with a dummy pre exec’d empty containers.

Tuesday 26th February 2008

To all registered VBS users.

We have noticed over the past few weeks that there has been a large upturn in the use of guaranteed bookings which has restricted normal usage of the system.  We at TCS are concerned that this is due to the amount of people willing to suffer the cost of such a booking which in turn books out slots which are not being used.

After discussions here on how we should try and deal with this the following decision has been reached.

From March 1st all haulers will be limited to one guaranteed booking per hour per day on a first come first serve basis.  We believe this will stop block bookings being made and will free up regular bookings for everyday use.  From tomorrow (27th February) the March bookings will be allocated into the system.  Please be aware that until March 1st the system will allow you to still book 4 guaranteed bookings, please do not take more than one.  The system when it clicks over on March 1st will cancel all but one guaranteed booking per haulier per hour if any haulier has taken more than the one booking.  TCS will not be able to honour any guaranteed bookings over and above the one.

We hope that this move will free up bookings for everyday use.

Thursday 14th February

It has been brought to the attention of TCS that despite earlier warnings and notices that hauliers are still parking over the yellow box area on the inside dock road.  These yellow boxed areas are areas of access for emergency vehicles.  Traffic law prohibits a vehicle to enter the yellow boxes unless their route out is clear.  Port police will be issuing fines for any vehicle that is parked in these areas

February 1st 2008

Please can all hauliers please instruct their driver to make sure they log out at the final barrier.  Some drivers are not completing this task and this causes delays whilst VBS helpdesk staff having to investigate the vehicle not being booked out.  Notices have been put up at TCS to let drivers know as well.
