Your main duties will include driving straddle carriers and plant machinery and vehicles to move containers within the confines of the dock to service the landside and shipside operations and operating quay cranes for loading and discharging ships. You will supplement a team involved in cargo handling operations for the presentation of cargo for HM Customs, Port Health, etc. plus other cargo handling duties, and will carry out berth maintenance and housekeeping duties, including the repositioning of containers in the container stacking area. You will also form part of a team involved in container lashing operations on board ships. This includes basic rigging and shipwright duties, as well as deck work and operating radio communications and keyboards, where fitted, for RDT communications.
Successful candidates will have a high standard of literacy, basic mathematical skills and hold a full clean car licence. We are also looking for people with HGV, PSV or mobile plant licences and driving experience.
With a sound understanding of the importance of working safely and excellent communication skills, you will possess the flexibility to work across a three-shift pattern, with night and weekend work a standard part of the roster.
Engineering Technicians – Mechanical and Electrical
Working as part of a team constructing, maintaining and repairing terminal equipment including our fleet of Straddle Carriers and Container Gantry Cranes, often working at heights, to achieve maximum availability, efficiency and safety.
Successful candidates will be time served technicians, preferably to a minimum of HND/HNC. Welding and general fitting experience with the ability to work on hydraulic circuits are essential for the mechanical roles. Electrical applicants should have experience in AC Drives and Close Looped Control Systems with knowledge of PLC equipment, while the flexibility to work and train between both trades is desirable.
